Applications of Benzoic Acid
An aromatic carboxylic acid, benzoic acid can be found in both plant and animal tissues and is also produced by certain microbes. Benzoic acid for elimination of heavy metals from wastewater
This research describes the successful application of carbamoyl benzoic acids as separation novel agents for the elimination of potentially harmful heavy metals found in wastewater from the metal plating industry. Heavy metal ions and carbamoyl benzoic acids in aqueous solutions were investigated as they neared zeta potential. Under certain physicochemical conditions, these carbamoyl acids have shown promise in binding metallic ions such as Pb2+, Cu2+, and Hg2+ (pH solution and metal–ligand relationship). The zeta potential of a solid surface in contact with aqueous media was used to examine the compounds' amide substituents' induction of a specific affinity toward the metallic ions present in water. When we defined the more robust interaction between the carbamoyl acids and metallic cations, researchers were able to use this measurement to ascertain the association constants (Kf) with metal ions. It appears from these results that Pb2+, out of all the metals examined (Cu2+, Hg2+, Ca2+, Fe2+, Ni2+, Mg2+, Ba2+, Al 3+, and Cd2+), is most likely to undergo a coagulation-flocculation process. According to the substituent and the estimated values of Kf which match the actual behavior, the carbamoyl acids are more successful at separating Pb2+ in the order of b > c > a. To provide evidence for carbamoyl acids' function as coagulants in real life situations, Measurements of transmission vs time were used to investigate the rates of sedimentation and clarity. Coagulation-flocculation test was verified by SEM-EDS analysis.
